Bodegas Martínez Sáez was founded by the business man Ángel Martínez López when he acquired the estate San José, with the objective of turning it into a profitable business. His first worry was to prepare the soil to plant the most emblematic grape varieties of the world, and adapting them to this soil, a process that has finally given results. The estate has 700 hectares, not only for vineyards, but for cereals and recently olive trees. All this at 800 meters of altitude.
The winery construction ended in 2001 and is equipped with the most modern facilities, with an elaboration capacity of one million and a half liters. It has computers to control the temperature, pneumatic press and an underground acclimatized hall where the temperature and the humidity act as regulation for the cask fermentation and its posterior bottling. The vineyards are carefully monitored year-round to obtain the best grapes.
The harvest is realized at sunrise, to prevent losing any of the characteristics of the grapes.
The first wine was commercialized in 2003, a young white wine elaborated with the macabeo variety. The following they commercialized a rosé wine and in 2005 they decided to commercialize the red wines, that have aged in the best French, Hungarian and American oak barrels. They are commercialized with the names Viña Orce and Martínez Sáez Selección.
Their current objectives are to obtain the designation “Vinos de Pago” and offer touristic activities such as the guided visit to the winery and vineyards, wine tastings or restaurant service.
